Based on the data that it collected, the Women's Health Initiative concluded that among the women who were taking combination hormone replacement therapy, there was a:
- 41% increase in the number of strokes
- 29% increase in the number of heart attacks
- 26% increase in the number of breast cancer cases
- doubling of the risk of developing blood clots.

Popular brand-name combination HRT drugs (estrogen plus progestin) include Prempro, Premphase, Femhrt, Activelle and Ortho-Prefest. In addition, some common brands of progestins include Provera, Amen, Curretab, Cycrin, Norlutin, Aygestin, and Norlutate.
